715 Yamada is first mentioned in a book called eShokunihongif
1643 A Dutch ship called the Breskens arrives in Yamada Bay to get a new supply of water and food, 10 crewmembers are arrested and escorted to Edo by the Southern feudal clan.
1735 There are 33 roads in the Southern feudal clan territory. The roads in the Toyomane area fall under the jurisdiction of the Miyako magistrate. Whereas the roads in the Osawa, Yamada, Orikasa and Funakoshi area become Oozuchi roads and thus fall under the jurisdiction of the Oozuchi magistrate.
1868 Rikumutsunokuni (sort of prefecture during the edo-period) was divided and this area was subjected to Rikuchuukuni (land of Rikuchuu).
1889 Enforcement of the municipalities. Iioka village and Yamada village merger and become Yamada city. Toyomane village, Osawa village, Orikasa village and Funakoshi village are established.
1896 An earthquake off the coast of Rikuchuu causes a huge tsunami. Approximately 2.950 people die and 1.370 peope are injured in Yamada. Severe damage is done to houses and property.
1933 An earthquake off the coast of Rikuchuu causes a tsunami. 18 people die and 12 people are injured. Lots of houses were damaged or washed away.
1935 The JR (Japanese Railway) Yamada line from Rikuchuu Yamada to Morioka station is opened.
1948 The foundation of Yamda Senior Highschool.
1950 Establishment of Yamada Hospital.
1955 Merger of Yamada city, Toyomane village, Osawa village, Orikasa village and Funakoshi village.
1960 Yamada is hit by a tsunami caused by an earthquake in Chili. Fortunately there werenft any fatalities but there was a lot of waterdamage and many houses were completely destroyed.
1965 Osawa, Yamada, Orikasa and Funakoshi Junior Highschool join together to form a new Yamada Junior Highschool.
1969 Orikasa bridge is opened for traffic.
1980 Honorary townsman Professor Suzuki is inaugurated byt the prime Minister.
2000 A bond of friendship is established between Yamada and the city of Zeist in the Netherlands.
2002 The opening of Yamada highway, a road that runs through Rikuchuu.
